Do you really guarantee that I will get an English teaching job?

YES! If you meet the eligibility criteria and register for the program, we will guarantee you an ESL teaching position in Thailand, Japan, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, South Korea, or Costa Rica. With hundreds of carefully vetted schools in our network and demand for native-speaking English teachers at an all-time high, we guarantee you a job and place you in a position that meets your preferences in areas like location, type of school, and other variables.

How much will I get paid to teach English in Asia and Costa Rica?

Salaries for teaching jobs that we place you in will vary by country and also from job to job.  We are very adamant that any schools we work with to place teachers pay at or above market averages, so you can be sure that you will receive a fair wage.

SOUTH KOREA - Most teaching jobs in South Korea available through this placement program pay $1,600 to $1,900 USD per month and include an end-of-contract bonus, a rent-free furnished apartment, and up to a $1,000 flight reimbursement. Because of these amazing benefits, most teachers easily save $500-$1000 USD (and up to $1000 USD) after expenses.

JAPAN -  Most teaching jobs available in Japan through this placement program pay $1,600 to $1,900 USD per month.

Your savings potential generally depends on your lifestyle and the cost of living where you live. Matters like where you shop, how much you eat out, how frequently you travel, and how often you go out with friends will have a big impact on your savings potential. On average, you can expect to save an average of  $2,500 USD over a year of teaching, and some teachers are able to save up to $5000.

THAILAND - Most teaching jobs available through placement pay at $900 to $1,000 per month (30,000 to 35,000 Baht). The average first-time teacher will earn around 35,000 baht (approximately $1,000), but some positions pay more. That might not sound like a lot, but due to the low cost of living in Thailand, most teachers are able to save up to $200 or more monthly after expenses.

MYANMAR - Most teaching jobs available through placement pay $600 to $1,000 per month (2 million to 3.2 million Kyat per month). That might not sound like a lot, but due to the low cost of living in Myanmar, most teachers are able to save from $200 to $300 monthly after expenses.

VIETNAM - Most teaching jobs available through placement pay at $1,200 to $2,000 per month (29.1 million Dong to 48.5 million Dong).  That might not sound like a lot, but due to the low cost of living in Vietnam, most teachers can save up to $300 or more monthly after expenses. That goes a long way in Vietnam and neighboring countries given the low costs of living and travel.

CAMBODIA - Most teaching jobs available through placement pay at $700 to $1,800 per month, AND you’re paid in US dollars! Due to the low cost of living in Cambodia, many teachers can save $200-$1,000 per month AFTER expenses.

COSTA RICA - Most teaching jobs available through placement pay at $900 to $1,800 per month. Due to the low cost of living in Costa Rica, most teachers can plan to break even with these salaries after monthly expenses.

What are the requirements to participate in ITA's TEFL Job Placement Programs?

Requirements vary by program but typically requirements include:

  • Citizenship from a recognized native-English-speaking nation,
  • Clean criminal record (some minor offenses may be okay in some countries),
  • Bachelor’s degree,
  • Minimum 120 hours accredited TEFL certification approved by ITA.

Not TEFL certified? We recommend  ITA’s 170-Hour Online TEFL Course or our in-person TEFL courses in Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam, or Costa Rica. Here is the complete ITA TEFL Course Index.

Age and other requirements will vary by program.

How long are the contracts for teaching positions?

Most English teaching contracts in Asia are for one year, but shorter contracts are often an option in Thailand.

In Costa Rica, your contract will vary based on what school type you are placed in, but contracts are typically 6 or 12 months.

Can I get a teaching placement with my friend, partner, or spouse?

In most cases, we can arrange this, and it is very common for friends and partners to get placed together.  While we can typically accommodate couples or friends, we cannot guarantee it in Japan. If we can't place you together in the same school, we will at least get you placements in the same location.  Many participants prefer this as they may not wish to work together, making it easier to widen your social circles in the local community.

What is the difference between Job Placement & Job Search Guidance?

ITA's Job Search Guidance comes included with your TEFL course. It is a service designed to provide you with the resources you need to get a great TEFL job, including personalized assistance. It does not place TEFL certified English teachers into specific jobs. For an additional fee, ITA's job placement programs provide a guaranteed English teaching job and salary range in Thailand, South Korea, or Japan.

My pay was great! (My pay was bumped up because I had my TEFL certificate) I was able to save approximately. $12,000 USD before leaving South Korea. And that excludes all of my traveling in and around Asia.

I would highly recommend teaching in Thailand. As for advice, be prepared to be flexible and open up your mind to learning another culture. It has greatly changed my perspective on life.

I chose to get my certification through the International TEFL Academy because I read a lot if glowing reviews from its alumni, I liked that there were advisors, and there was job assistance.
