As someone with a bachelor's in education who’s dream was to travel, ITA helped show me that dream could become a reality! I loved this course and the additional knowledge, resources, and tools it gave me to not only use in my ESL career but certainly what I learned can carry over into the general education classrooms here in the U.S. as well. - ITA Grad Suzy Rowe

Most teaching jobs available in Japan through this placement program pay $1,400 to $1,600 USD per month. Those with teaching experience and/or teaching qualifications may earn up to $1,900 USD monthly.
Your savings potential generally depends on your lifestyle. Matters like where you shop, how much you eat out, how frequently you travel, and how often you go out with friends will have a big impact on your savings potential. On average, you can expect to save about $150 to $500 USD per month. This will depend on your position, your experience, and your lifestyle when it comes to spending.
The requirements to participate in our Teaching Abroad Program in Japan with Job Placement are:
YES! If you meet the eligibility criteria and register for the job placement program, we will guarantee you an ESL teaching position in Japan. With 150+ carefully vetted schools in our network and demand for native-speaking English teachers at an all-time high, we not only guarantee you a job, but we will place you in a position that meets your preferences in terms of location, type of school, and other variables.
Our in-country team will assist you in finding suitable accommodation when you head to your school placement in Japan. Some schools also have apartments for their teachers to live in.
You can typically expect to stay in a single-occupancy studio apartment. Rent typically runs from $350 to $550 USD per month depending on where you’re placed in Japan (rents in major cities like Tokyo are often higher).
Accommodation for English teachers in Japan is typically a studio apartment or a shared apartment or house. It generally consists of a double bed, TV, bathroom with shower, kitchen, desk, and some living space. Many teachers prefer a shared apartment or house as it is the most affordable option and provides the opportunity to make new friends.
While we place spouses and friends together in other applicable countries within the Job Placement Program offering, we, unfortunately, can't guarantee this for Japan due to the nature of the hiring process with local schools. If you're enrolling with your significant other or a friend, it's best to be prepared not to be placed in the same town in Japan. The good news is that the local bullet trains make travel between towns and cities super easy and a quicker-than-normal commute.
ITA's Job Search Guidance comes included with your TEFL course. It is a service designed to provide you with the resources you need to get a great TEFL job, including personalized assistance. It does not place TEFL certified English teachers into specific jobs. For an additional fee, ITA's job placement programs provide a guaranteed English teaching job and salary range in Thailand, South Korea, or Japan.
