Housing Arrangements

Housing is not included in the TEFL course tuition. Assistance in finding accommodations in Phnom Penh, however, is available.

Our onsite partners in Cambodia have identified suitable accommodations near the course location and will provide a verified list of 2 budget, 2 medium-priced, and 2 higher-end options. The accommodation list that will be provided after registration is by no means definitive, and we recommend also doing your own independent research on hotels within your budget in the city.

When booking your accommodation, keep in mind that your first night should be no later than day one of your program (the designated start date) – which will be a Sunday. This is important because the onsite partner hosts a welcome dinner and drinks (all free) in the evening on the first Sunday of each new program. The welcome dinner is a terrific opportunity to meet the staff and your classmates in an informal setting, which makes day two of your program (the first day in class), less stressful than it would otherwise be.

So including day one – that first Sunday – you should book accommodation for 23 nights to complete this onsite TEFL certification program in Phnom Penh.

Recommended neighborhoods: Duan Penh and surrounding districts in Phnom Penh.

Decent English language skills (including grammar skills) are a core entry requirement for our TESOL program. I chose ITA because it had the best reviews and results. There was very little bad to be said about the program, and they stood by helping their students get situated abroad. I had no experience teaching prior to this course so it was a struggle at first, but a needed one. I feel very comfortable in the classroom now. The practicum was by far the most useful part of the course. I use my notes from the ITA TEFL class pretty frequently here in Cambodia. My classroom management and teaching habits are more developed, and I still use the lesson plan outline given to us.

ITA seemed to be up there as a very good place to get TEFL certified, and I trusted them. I took the Online TEFL Course and it was a busy time, working a full-time job and trying to hand in the best lesson plans I could, but I learned tremendously about teaching and prepping lessons. The tasks are really made for us to get the feel of what life as a teacher is like. I decided to teach English in Cambodia because I do not have a degree and am not a native English speaker. I am able to save around 500$/month - of course, it all depends on your way of living - I live a very simple life.

I chose ITA because it seemed like they had the most rigorous course. I didn't want to walk into a classroom unprepared, and I thought they would be the best at providing that preparation. The Online TEFL course was easy to fit into my work week. I think the tasks aligned really well with the curriculum; they allowed me time to practice the skills I was learning. While I'd had teaching experience before, I hadn't taught English, so learning about different language teaching strategies was really beneficial for me. I make $2,000 per month at the International school I teach at here in Cambodia.
