One favorite travel memory is from very early on in my life when I was 16 and I traveled with a group of students to live for a week with an indigenous group in the jungles of Ecuador.  We were given new names, were painted, slept in hammocks, bathed in waterfalls, and ate monkey soup (don’t recommend).  Certainly a life-altering experience.

Be teachable and be humble.  While you will go with much to give and teach others, allow yourself to learn and be taught by the local community and culture wherever you are teaching.
