Online TEFL courses are considered legitimate by language schools and online teaching companies hiring English teachers, but only if they are accredited and meet international standards. For example, they must include at least 100 hours of academic coursework and 6-20 hours of live practice teaching.

Are Online TEFL Certificates Recognized & Accepted By Employers?

Language schools and other institutions that hire TEFL-certified English teachers will typically recognize online TEFL courses as long as they are accredited and include live practice teaching. At ITA, 5,000 students take our online course annually, and graduates gain employment in 80 countries.

How Do Online TEFL Courses Work?

Online educational platforms such as Moodle enable students to complete their coursework online on their computers. Students can watch lectures, take quizzes, submit written assignments, engage in peer-to-peer discussions & projects, and even complete their live practice teaching virtually.

How Long Does Online TEFL Take?

A fully accredited 120-hour online course can be completed in four weeks, however, most online TEFL courses are offered on a part-time basis providing students more flexibility. ITA's 170-hour part-time course takes 11 weeks and most students need 10-12 hours a week to complete their coursework.

Which Online TEFL Course Should I Take?

If you want to get TEFL certified as quickly as possible and you have no work or school commitments, we recommend ITA's 4-week intensive Online TEFL Course.
